What You Will Be Buying
Your money will be used to buy and distribute a special kind of mosquito net- Long Lasting Insecticide treated Nets (LLINs). These nets are treated with chemicals which kill mosquitoes but have no effect on humans. Even without continued care and maintenance, these nets last between 3 and 5 years. So how much do they cost?
$10. Yes, $10 is all it takes to buy and distribute one of these powerful lifesaving mosquito nets. One net, one sleeping space - quite often two children sleep on the same bed and this makes for a pretty easy calculation when you want to figure out just how many nets you have donated and how many people you have saved from the jaws of malaria.
All administrative costs (which are very low since we are integrated into the communities) are covered by other grants and not your personal donation. Every cent you give goes directly to the purchase and distribution of nets.

Who You'll Be Helping
We intend to provide nets for about 4,000 people in 3 villages distributed around Sahn Malen, Sierra Leone, the village in which we carried out the GMin '07 project. In addition, we will establish and expand similar sensitization strategies employed in the '07 project.
So why the beautiful Sahn Malen chiefdom? Well, in addition to being very kind, welcoming and cooperative, they also devoted themselves wholeheartedly to the project and half a year after the intervention a whopping 93% use their bed nets every night. That's dedication! And we admire it. Especially when you consider success stories from other bed net projects reach a 60% usage rate.
The courage employed by our local partners is incredible. After a decade long civil war that ended about 5 years ago, Sierra Leone still ranks lowest on the UN Human Development Index. Yet the people of Sahn Malen radiate with a sense of hope and determination to make things better by working with themselves and other groups. Everyone knows that their country is trying to do its best and therefore they put aside their differences to unite for a brighter future. The youths would tirelessly help us distribute the nets, always listen to advice from the malaria sensitization team and help spread the word by playing in the malaria cup.
We hope this gives you at least a small picture of who our collaborators are because they are the ones you will be helping.
